DISTRESSED AREAS
SPECIAL FUND ADVOCATED STIMULATION OF INDUSTRIES (Received February 16. 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY. Feb. 15 The Commissioner for Distressed Areas in England and Wales, in a progress report, recommonds that n special fund be created to stimulate the introduction of new industries and the expansion of existing ones in these special areas. In regard to agriculture a programme is announced to enable about 2000 families from the special areas to be established on small holdings by the summer of 1937, mostly in groups of about?4o families. The planting of trees on about 200,000 acres within 15 miles of the special areas is also recommended.
