RACE HELD TO TE KOUMA ALEXANDER MEMORIAL CUP VICTORY FOR THE RAWENE The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron held its annual race to Te Kouma, Coromandel, on Saturday afternoon. The race took the form of a general handicap and brought out 22 starters, which were sent away in a fresh breeze from the north-east. The first prize was tlio T. M. Alexander Memorial Gold Cup, which was won by Mr. A. JO. Gilford's Rawene. In ucklition (o the race for keel yachts the annual contest for the Drysdale Cup for crews under 21 in class M, was also held over 11 harbour course. Tho winner was Manene, Bailed by Master C. Dennes. The course for the lonk distance race was from starting line off King's Wharf, thence to Te Kouma, keeping inside AVaiheke and pnssing through Ruth's Passage, finishing between Mr. C. H. T. Palmer's motor-yacht Adelaide and the Boulder Bank, a distance of 30 miles.

From an excellent start lorangi was lirst away, closely followed by Waiomo, Rawene.' Ariki, Lndye Wilma, Little Jim, Victory. Ngatoa, lvotuku, Mahaki and Moana. with the others handy. Ida crossed the line too soon and lost 11 m in recrossing. Just before gunfire a collision look place between Prize and Victas, resulting in Prize splitting her bowsprit. Temporary repairs were effected and Prize continued in the race, losing 4m at the start. On the beat down tho harbour Rawene, Ariki and lorangi hud a keen contest for first place. OIF Devonport Kawene had a lead from Ariki and lorangi, but when Bean Hock lighthouse was reached Kawene had to give place to Ariki. lorangi curried away her bobstay ofl Kangiloto and retired. Ariki continued her lead and Kawene was second boat until off Rocky Bay, where she put in u board 011 starboard and lay along the Waiheke shore. Ariki, Wuitangi, Prize and Ilex stood toward the southern end of Ponui Island and. when the yachts crossed tucks at the bottom end of Waiheke, Waitangi was holding second position and Rawene third. Passing through Ruth's Passage Ariki was leading Rawene by 15m, Rawcnts having meanwhile again headed Waitangi. Ngatoa was 4m further astern; then came Prize, Little Jim. Waiomo and Ilex. It was a dead beat to ißangipukeu Island and Ngatoa, Little Jim, Waione and Waiomo stood on starboard tack and iiawene, Ariki. Prize and Waitangi on port tack. The wind was flesh until toward the finish when it eased up. The race started at '2.15 p.m. The finishing times were:—Ariki (scr), Oh 4m 21s; Rawene (17m), Oh 8m 20s; Ngatoa (10m.), 9h 17m His; Waitangi (35m), Oh 27m 4(is; Little Jim (30m), 9li 43m 20s; Waiomo (32m), Oh 45m 30s; Prize (25m), Oh 10m 10s; Waione (42m), Oh 55m Is; Ladye Wilma (47m), Oh 57m 38s; Moana (29m), lOh 9m 31s; Kotiri (52m). 10b 14m 4b; Rambler (07m). lOh 14m 255; Ilex (45m), lOh 24m 475; Altnir (57m). lOh 28m 40s; Kotnku (92m). llh 2C>in 30s; Windward (G7m), llh 30m 58s; Mahaki (80m), llh 31m 15s; lona (82m), llh 10m 30s. lorangi (Cm), Victory (27m), Ida (52m). and Victas (115 m) retired. The result on corrected times was: — Rawene, 1; Waitangi, 2; Ariki, 3; Ngatoa, 4. DRYSDALE CUP CONTEST The race for M class, which was for crews under 21, brought out four starters. On the fall of the last flag Manu crossed the line first, closely followed by Manaia and Maroro, with Maneno a little further astern. It was a beat all tho way to the White Light buoy in Rangitoto Channel and, when the Bastion beacon was reached, Manene was leading Manu, with Maroro and Mannia following some distance further away. After making the turn at the White Light buoy spinnakers were sot and good progress was made on the run to the finishing line off King's Wharf. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were: —Manene (scr). 3h 50m 12s; Manu (scr), 3h 58m 41s; Maroro (scr), 4h 6m 20s; Manaia (scr), 4h 10m 395. The result was:—Manene (C. Dennes), 1; Manu (D. Goodfellow), 2; Maroro (J. Thorne), 3. MaAiaia was sailed by T. Robertton.

The officials in charge of the racing were Messrs. R. Laird. G. E. Laycock, P. Annan and J. Jenks. The finishing times nt Te Kouma were taken by Mr. C. 11. X. Palmer from his motor-yacht .Adelaide.
