VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB ANNUAL REGATTA DECIDED CLARE ROSE BOWL CONTEST The Victoria Cruising Club held its annual regatta on Saturday afternoon. All races started and finished off the Western Reclamation wall in Freeman's Bay. The weather conditions were ideal for yachting, a fresh north-east wind prevailing throughout tho afternoon. The inter-cMub contest tor 18ft. V class boats for the Clare Rose Bowl was held in conjunction with the race for 18-footors, and was won easily by Paroro, representing the Devonport Yacht Club. The new Y class boat Avenger capsized at the start of the race, and the Z class boat Waterbeetle overturned in tho race for her class. Both boats were baled out and sailed home. EVENT FOR LAUNCHES The nice for launches was started nt 2.30 p.m., the course being from starting line, round Sanrispit beacon, round Rona buoy, back to starting line. The finishing times were:—Comrade (lm), 3h 23m 20s ; Marua (lm), :ih 23m 30s; Rambler (12m). 3h 28m 2s; Namoi (scr), 3h 29m 3s: Young Zealnndin (22m), 3h 'lsni 4s. The result on corrected tunes was: Rambler. 1; Comrade. 2; Marua, 3. THE MULLET BOAT CLASSES

In the race for class H Starlight crossed the line too soon and was ordered to return. Omatere was first away und was closely followed by Celox, with Starlight last. Omatere improved her position on tho beat down the harbour and led for the remainder of the course. At the Resolution buoy the order was Omatere. Celox, Starlight. On the next leg to tho White Light buoy Starlight headed Celox. and when the boats passed King's Wharf on tho run up the harbour the times were:—Omatere. 4h 0m 255; Starlight. 4h 3m 40s. Celox. lh 4m 465. The latter threw out a strong challenge to Starlight and finally passed her rival. Near the Rona buoy, however, Starlight regained second place. The race started at 240 p.m. The finishing times were:—Omatere (scr), 4h 26m 12s: Starlight (scr). 4h 30m 15s: Celox (3in). 4h 30m 48s. The result on corrected times was--Omaterc. j; Celox. 2. GOOD START EFFECTED

A good start was effected in tho race for class L. Valeria was first away and next to her came Tamariki. Varuna. Kohara. Waialao and Sea Horse in that order. Me lita was 2m 45s late. There was very little between Valeria and Tamariki on the close haul down the harbour, and when the Resolution buoy waß reached Valeria had a lead of 10 seconds from Tamariki A good race was fought out to the channel mark and, when the boats returned to tho harbour. Tamariki was leading Valeria, with Kohara in third position. PassimKing's Wharf Tamariki was 41 seconds in front of Valeria, but when the Rona buoy was reached Valeria had considerably re duced Tamariki's lead and finally finished 12 seconds astern of her rival. Tho race started at 2.50 p.m. The finish ing times were:—Tamariki (acr), 4h 45m 2s; Valeria (30s). 4h 45m 11s; Kohara (3m). 4h 52m 21s; Waialao (8m). 4h 52m 335: Varuna (8m), 4h 55m 16s; Sea Horse (20m) 5h 15m 335. Melita (Gm) retired. The result on corrected times was: Waialae, 1; Valeria, 2; Tamariki. 3. PARORO WINS CLARE BOWL

The race for 18ft. class V bonts brought out seven competitors, which crossed the line together, with the exception of Mis chief. This boat went over before gunfire, and. failing to return, was disqualified. Paroro soon went into the lead and led for the remainder of the course. She won the Clare Rose Bowl on behalf of the Devonport Yacht Club for the first 18footer to finish in the class, and gained second prize in the handicap event. The race started at 3 p.m. Tho finishing timeß were:—Paroro (2m). 4h 37m 10s; Mischief (7m), 4h 42m 355; Mollie (13m). 4h 43m 40s: Marianne (44m). 4h 45m 12s. Manutere, Jewel and Arline retired. Namu and Sirona were the only starters at 3.10 p.m. in the race for class S. Sirona retired, leaving Namu to finish alone at ,4h 59m Is. She was awarded a special prize Treasure. Meteor. Rona M. and Vamp started in that order in the race for class T. Treasure led Vamp by over a minute on the completion of the first round, but in the second Vamp passed Treasure, both Rona M. and Meteor retiring. The race started at 3.20 p.m. The finishing times were: —Vamp (scr), 4h 52m 10s: Treasure (lm 30s), 4h 53m 3s. The result on corrected times was:— Treasure. 1. Philomel, 28 K3, 3li 15m 17s. 1; R.N.V.R No. 1. 3h 15m 21a. 2: Royal Artillery. 3h 15m 345, 3; H.M.S. Philomel. 28 K2. 3h 17m 345. H.M.S. Philomel. 28 Kl. and R.N.V.R. No. 2 retired. EVENTS ON MANUKAU YACHT CLUB'S REGATTA MYSTIC'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club held its annual regatta and championship races on Saturday afternoon. All events started and finished off tne clubhouse and were sailed in a good breeze from the east. In the 18ft. championship Invader was first away, closely followed by Mystery with the rsst handy. Mystic did well in the first round and improved her position in the second. The race started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—Mystic, 4h 55m 58s; Ranui, 4h 58m 36b ; Invader, 6h lm 3(is; Aotea, oh 2m 20s; Maia and Mystery retired. The result was:—Mystic. 1. The open championship was sailed .ri conjunction with the race for 18-footers and was also won by Mystic. Seymour crossed the line first in the 10ft. championship, but Aratu soon took the lead and maintained her position for tho remainder of the course. The race started at 2.40 P.m. The finishing times were:—Aratu. 4h 41m 295; Seymour, 4h 42m 50s: Juniper retired The result was:—Aratu. 1. The 14ft. championship started at 2.&0 p.m., but owing to a misunderstanding, the boats were recalled, resulting in four returning. Sea Gnome. Sea King. Aloma and Perseus carried on. The last three hoata, however, retired on the completion of the first round. Sea Gnome continued nnd was then no longer regarded as a competitor. A fresh start was made at 4.10 p.m.. and tho Auckland crack 14-footer, Mania, which was specially takea to the Manukau for the race, went into the lead and was never [ headed, winning easily. ! Cremorne also won the novolty race for launches by 39 seconds. Scud took the lead at tho start in the sweepstake race for yachts and led for the remainder of the course. Tho race started at 2.15 p.m. The finishing times were:— Scud (scr), 3h 9m 41s; Val (4m). 3h 18m 445; Foam (1.2 m), 3h 19m 295; Sea Pixie (Cm), 3h 24m 475; Okere (8m), 3h 22m 31s; Kia Ora (13m), 3h 23m 21s; Cleone (7m), 3h 27m 495. The result on corrected times was:—Foam, 1; Scud, 2: Kia Ora, 3. HERNE BAY CLUB RACES FOR SMALL CLASSES Races for small classes were held by the Heme Bay Junior Sailing Club on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing oft Ponsonby Wharf. Endeavour and Mary T were the only starters at 3 p.m. in the race for the Silver Fern class. Endeavour established a good lead, but capsized and Mary T finished alone at 4h 0m 40s. She was sailed by Master E. Howson. Thero were five starters in the race for the open class at 3 p.m. and all completed the course. Tho finishing times were Watchman (4m). 4h 2m 15s; Hiker (7m). 4h 2m 20s; Kohu (10m), 4h Gm 455; Heather (14m), 4h 7m 17s; Peril (22m), 4h 20m 455. The result on corrected times was:— Heather (J. Leyland), 1; Hiker (R. Percy), 2; Kohu (J. Rew), 3. Messrs. G. Dennes, A. Hurley and F. Bell-Booth were in charge of the racing.
