TREES AND POWER LINES

gj r _i heartily endorse what has been so well expressed by Mr. Thomas. Jn one of our suburbs there is an avenue of beautiful pohutukawa trees presented by the residents. On one side Tsome of the trees are hopelessly cut to clear Post and Telegraph lines; the trees on the other side will no doubt share the same fate for power lines. It seems to me that councils and authorities should adopt a stringent by-law making it an offence to touch trees except under a permit, and then the work required to be done by qualified men, who would trim the trees to preserve their symmetry. Beautiful trees take years to grow. Power lines in a few years will surely be relegated to their proper place —underground. John* Patterson-.
