OBITUARY
MR. M. E. WIIG NORWEGIAN CONSUL [by TELEGRAPH OWN correspondent! INVERCARGILL, Sunday The death occurred at Bluff to-day of Mr. M. E. Wiig, Norwegian Consul for Now Zealand for the last 16 years. Born in 1866 in Norway, Mr. Wiig chose a sea career and came to New Zealand in the schooner Kenilworth, landing at Auckland in 1889. He spent some time in coastal trading; vessels and then established a sailmaking business at Port Ahuriri. In 1893, Mr. Wiig married Miss Emma Kennedy, of Napier, and ten years later went to Bluff where he had been since. Appointed Norwegian Consul in 1910. Mr. Wiig returned to his native land on a visit in 1925 and was received by King Haakon, who personally' decorated him with the Order of Saint Olaf First Class. Some years ago, Mr. Wiig was appointed agent surveyor for Det Norske Veritan (Norwegian Lloyd's I *, filling this office in an advisory capacity to the Boss Sea Whalers. He is survived by his widow and an adult family of ten. There are 19 grandchildren.
