SAVOY OPERA SEASON
COMMENCING THIS WEEK Commencing its Now Zealand tour with a performance of the over popular " Gondoliers " at His Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday night, tho J. C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan Com pan v seems to bo assured of a successful Dominion season. Music lovers in all parts of tho country have oxpressed delight at being afforded an opportunity of hearing tho Savoy operas performed by a really first-class company and all augurs well for tho tour. Bookings to date are reported to bo phenomenally heavy. Produced by arrangement with Rupert D'Oyly Carte, of London, the operas Avill be presented with extreme care. Tho reason for this may be appreciated when it is realised that Mr. D'Oylv Carte is tho sole descendant of Richard D'Oyly Carte, tho man responsible for the Gilbert and Sullivan partnership, one of the most niomentoijs instances of collaboration in the history of modern music. Gilbert and Sullivan operas have aJwaj T i» enjoyed groat popularity in New Zealand. In each production are represented tho two halves of a unique whole, yet libretto and lhusic remain such perfect units that each has a distinctive life by itself. Booking arrangements for tho local season are advertised.
