FRACAS ON WHARF
MAN'S JAW BROKEN INCIDENT AT RAGLAN [from our own correspondent] RAGLAN, Saturday . A dispute which occurred on tho Raglan Wharf during tho unloading of the steamer Bonaki led to the appearance of three men before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in tho Raglan Police Court yesterday. William McCallum and Kenneth McCallum were charged with disorderly conduct and Edward John Tucker was charged with causing actual bodily harm, a charge which was reduced to one of assault. Sergeant T. Kelly, who prosecuted, said that Kenneth McCallum and Tucker indulged in sky-larking when the Ronaki was being unloaded. Tucker's shirt was torn and McCallum was requested to desist. He did not do so and Tucker struck McCallum a blow with his clenched fist, fracturing his jaw. William McCallum struck Tucker and cracked his molar bone. The magistrate ordered Kenneth McCallum to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and remarked that his broken jaw would no doubt act as a lesson to him. William McCallum was admitted to probation for two years and was prohibited. He was ordered to pay costs and witnesses' expenses.
Tucker admitted the assauit charge and was fined £2 and was ordered to pay costs and witnesses' expenses.
