SUPPOSED BURGLAR
HOUSEHOLDER'S ALARM INCIDENT AT CLAUDELANDS [from our own* correspondent] HAMILTON. Friday Visions of a spectacular arrest were conjured up by a resident of Claudelands last evening, when he barricaded a supposed burglar in a wardrobe and telephoned to the police. Two constables soon arrived in a motor-car and found the occupant of the house anxiously awaiting them in the front garden. In one of the bedrooms they found a bedstead and other furniture piled against the wardrobe, which had been locked. After removing the barricade the constables braced themselves for action and threw the door open, only to find the wardrobe empty. A search was made of the house, but there was nothing to suggest the presence of an intruder.
Questioned b.v the police the householder admitted that he had seen no burglar, but had hoard a creak in the vicinity of the wardrobe, and, taking no risks, immediately locked the door and barricaded it.
