IMPUDENT THEFT

ROBBER WEARING MASK WOMAN'S JEWELLERY TAKEN [from OCR owx correspondent] MELBOURNE. Feb. i A masked thief confronted Mrs. S. J. Hannan, daughter of the 'late Mr, Benjamin Nathan, when she returned to her home in F.l.stern wick, at 11.30 p.m. on Friday. S]>eaking through a handkerchief which was tied around the lower part of his face, the thief demanded money from her. Mrs Hannan, who was carrying her handbag, showed the contents of the bag to the man. She told him that it was not her custom to carry money, nor to keep it in the house. In response to the man's demands Mrs, Hannan gave him two rings and a wrist watch, of a total value of £3O. which she was wearing. When he insisted that some money may have been left in the house she unlocked a side door and allowed him to enter. Satisfied finally that there was no money in any of the rooms, the thief disconnected the telephone before escaping.
