SUNDAY TRADING
STOREKEEPER IN COURT METHYLATED «'SPIRITS SOLD A charge of Sunday trading wag brought against a storekeeper of Grey'g Avenue, Francis Moorhead, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Defendant pleaded guilty. < Sub-Inspector Fox said that a constable had been instructed to keep defendant's store under observation, and he found that a man purchased a bottle of methylated spirits on a recent Sunday morning. Quite a number of "dead beats" round the city on Sundays purchased methylated spirits, -which they mixed with water and drank. Appearing for Moorhead, Mr. Burt said that defendant had not been in trouble of any nature previously, and on Sundays he was pestered by men in that locality.
In imposing a fine of £2 and costs,, the magistrate said that it appeared that Moorhead had been in the habit of selling methylated spirits to inebriates, when the hotels were closed.
