MANY SPILLS
Lady Ursula Manners, 19 year-old daughter of the Duke of Rutland, narrowly escaped drowning while hunting with the Bel voir Hounds near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, recently. Her horse slipped while crossing a bridge, and fell with her into a flooded ditch containing eight feet of water. Lady Ursula and her mount struggled frantically, and finally extricated themselves little the worse. A few minutes later, Lady Isobel Manners, the Duke of Rutland's second daughter, was also thrown. Her horse was badly lamed, but she herself escaped with a ducking. Their mishaps were two of many accidents due to floods in the Vale of JJelvoir. Lord Conyers, Sir Arthur Curtis, and Captain W. Rolio were all thrown in the same flooded ditch, and were thoroughly drenched. Another victim was Miss Yvery Paynter, youngest daughter of BrigadierGeneral Paynter, whose pony twice unseated her and rolled over in the water. Galloping horses sent up sprays of water yards high, drenching their riders.
