William Alexander Welsh, who was f found guilty of attempting to obta\n £6O by a false pretence. Mr. Justice Northcroft said he. could not agree with counsel that it was a crime of folly. It was a deliberate, mean and heartless attempt to exploit the feelings of the unfortunate people who went to Welsh for help. Welsh told the parents of a young public servant who had been arrested on a charge of theft from the department that further defalcations amounting to £6O had been discovered and that unless this money -was repaid their son would probably receive a more severe sentence.
