JOCKEYS SENTENCED
TERMS OF IMPRISONMENT GUILTY OF GRAVE OFFENCES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Two Christchurch jockeys, who had been found guilty of serious offences, were sentenced by Mr. Justice Northcroft at the Supreme Court this morning.
Kobert Drinkwater, aged 23, for attempted rape, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. His Honor said that it was true that the jury had found there had been extenuating circumstances. Had it not been for that recommendation he would have considered it his duty to order a flogging. Gordon Stewart Barr, aged 21, for indecent assault, was sentenced to 12 months' hard labour. In this case His Honor said he was extending the utmost leniency.
