LIGHT, VARIABLE WINDS SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclone now covers ' the greater portion of the Tasman and extends on to New Zealand, but there is evidence of a very slight depression south of Lord Howe Island. The forecast is for light to moderate and variable winds, but with southerlies predominating. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough on parts of the west coast south of Cape Egmont, but decreasing, and otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate and variable winds and slight to moderate seas. Later the winds may tend northerly in the northern portion. The weather is likely to be for the most part fair, but with considerable cloud and a few isolated local rains and possibly thunder, . more especially in northern and eastern districts. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MAINLY FAIR, WITH CLOUDS The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province. The indications are for moderate southerly winds, changing to east or north-east. The weather is likely to be mainly fair to cloudy, but _later_ scattered rains developing, especially in the north. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Cloudy weather, with o<v casional periods of sunshine, was experienced yesterday. Wellington.—The day was fair, but for the most part overcast. A light northerly breeze prevailed in the morning, and" a light southerly in the afternoon. Christchurch. —The day was dull with light rain in the evening. The maximum temperature was 61 degrees. There wa3 a light north-north-westerly breeze in | the morning and a moderate east-north-easterlv in the afternoon. The barometer was rising and registered 30.30 m. . last evening. Dunedin. —Following light rain in the early part of the morning, the day was dull but fine for the most part. A light southerly breeze prevailed. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees.
