BURNS ANNIVERSARY
OTAHUHU COMMEMORATION The 177 th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, was observed by the Otahuhu Caledonian Society a't a commemorative dinner in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Saturday evening. The chief, Mr. J. M. Deas, welcomed a company of over ]3O, including representatives of the Onehunga and Sandringhani Caledonian Societies, the St. Andrew's Society of New Lvnn and the Franklin Burns Cluh. The chief and visiting officials were piped to the chair by Pipers R. A. Archibald, J. Cooper, T. Mclntyre and ,T. P. Robertson. The toasi;, "The Immortal Memory," was proposed by the Rev. W. P. Rankin, of New Lynn. Other toasts proposed were: "Our Native Land," by Mrs. N. Donne, responded to by Mr. J. Siiclair; "Our Adopted Land," by Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., reply by Mr. H. Fulton; "Kindred Societies," by Mr. J. M. Deas, reply by Mr. R. McLeod; "Otahuhu Caledonian Society," by Mr. E. Stanley George, reply by Mr. J. R. Hardie; "The Lassies," by Mr. W. L. Pirie. reply by Mrs. J. Mclvor. The haggis was borne to the tables with traditional honours, headed by four pipers. The "Address to a Hslggis" was recited by Mr. R. Allan. An excellent musical programme was provided.
