PRESENTATION OF CHEQUE

GIFT TO MISS LEELA BLOY

The young Auckland violinist, Miss Leela Bloy, for whom a benefit concert was held some weeks ago, was yesterday morning presented with a cheque to enable her to leave for Australia, where she will further her studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. The presentation, which took place at a meeting of. the Auckland Travel Club in the Milne and Choyco Reception Hall, was made by the Mayoress, Mrs. Ernest Davis. Mrs. Davis expressed the confidence of the people of Auckland in Miss Bloy's talent, an instance of which, she said, was the' chequo for £l6O which had been obtained mainly as the result of the concert held in the Town Hal}. She hoped Miss Bloy would have a very successful career and extended to her the best wishes of the people of Auckland for her future prosperity and renowh in the world of music. Miss Bloy expressed her sincere thanks for the presentation and said she would do all in her power to justify the confidence which had been placed in her by Auckland friends. She was presented with a shoulder posy by Lady Sinclair-Lockhart. A letter was read by Mrs. Victor Macky from Mrs. Bloy, in which the writer, who was unable to be present owing to illness, thanked all those who had contributed toward her daughter's further tuition in Melbourne. > -

A violin solo "Rondo" by Mozart was played by Miss Bloy, her accompanist being Miss Isabel McKinnon.

The committee responsible for the organisation of the benefit concert comprised:—Mrs. J. C. D. Macky (convener), Lady Horton, Mrs. Ernest Davis, Mrs. E. H. B. Milsom, Mrs. F. W. Wilson, Mrs. Kenneth Myers, Mrs. L. J. Shrubsall, ( Mrs. H. L. Rees, Mrs/ Geoffrey 'Fisher, Mrs. Scott Wilson, Mrs. W. W. Averill, Mrs. J'. Gwyune and Mrs. Victor Macky.
