MERCANTILE AUXILIARY

DANCE FOR SHIP'S OFFICERS

A very enjoyable impromptu dance, given by the Mercantile Auxiliary Club, in honour of the officers, engineer officers and cadets of the Nardana, was held on Thursday evening. In spite of the very hot weather, full measuro was taken of the delightful music supplied by the ship's orchestra under the conductorship of the third officer, Mr. Clark. Included in. the selections played were two numbers composed by Mr. Clark during the ship's journey from New York to Auckland, entitled, "If Anything Happened to You" and "Fog." These numbers were repeatedly encored by the dancers. Items by Miss Hilary Booth and Miss Jean Reynolds were much appreciated. _ At the conclusion Captain Dorkin-White thanked the members on behalf of the ship for their very happy evening, and three cheers were given for the club. Among those present were Mrs. M. Ifwersen, wearing black charmeuse; Miss Joyce Dickey, shell pink crepe merle; Miss Esme Ifwersen, coral georgette; Miss Hilda Dickey; blue satin beaute; Miss Ivie Jennings, powder pink lace; Miss Jean Gaudie, eau de nil wind-swept satin; Miss Moira Wright, floral frock in tones of printernps green; Miss Betty Seabrook, white faille: Miss Peggy Martin, white lace; Miss Laura Edgar, ivory embroidered georgette; Miss Ailsa Vahry, midnight blue charmeuse: Miss Joyce Smythe, floral.satin; Miss Alison Canavan, floral frock with crimson coatee; Miss Clyde Ifwersen, black and ivory heavy satin; Miss Noel Gaudie, sprigged taffetta; Miss Rita Booth, floral organdie; Miss Jean Reynolds, geranium red lace; Miss Hilary Booth, sea blue crepe merle; Miss Mary Smythe, ivory satin beaute.
