—o CONCERN IN BRITAIN EMPIRE DEFENCE QUESTION LONDON. Jan. 15 The Sun-Herald news service states that the British Government of late has become increasingly disturbed by the unceasing expansion of Germany's armaments, and Britain's defence Estimates, shortly to be announced, may rather shock the nation. The fact that the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, and the senior Ministers and defence chiefs had long meetings on ; two successive days, followed by a full meeting of the Cabinet to-day which solely dealt with Imperial defence, is regarded as an indication of the Government's concern. GOLFER RETIRES AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL INJURY TO SHOULDER SAN FRANCISCO. Jan. 15 Leo Diegel announces his permanent withdrawal from professional golfing in consequence of a recurrence of the trouble caused by the injury to one of his shoulders sustained in the Australian tour 15 months ngo. At the time he was playfully wrestling with Harry j Cooper, formerly of London.
