ROADS NOW OPEN
BAY OF PLENTY ROUTES FLOOD WATERS RECEDING [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Thursday After being blocked through flooding. the Opotiki-W liakatane road is now open to traffic, the water having receded at Waiotahi. Ihe \\ aioweka road is also open and the service car was able to get through on time this morning. However, the Mereinere Hill on the Motu road is still badly blocked and motorists from Opotiki had a trying experience last night in an endeavour to drive through to Toatoa, 2-1 miles from Opotiki. Ibe driver hail an urgent telephone message to bring a woman into Opotiki for medical attention, but lrequent slips were encountered and lie was forced to turn back. In all he covered .'56 miles in six hours. Two large lorries with a gang of men went out to-day to clear the road, but it is difficult to say how long the work will take.
