Argentic and Rona Bay were companions in an attractive gallop over seven furlongs in 1.29, tho first halfmile in 50 3-ss, and tho last half in 525. There was not much between them at the finish. Rona Ray completed her task very solidly. She should not be disgraced among the good class horses she will meet at Trentham. Studley Royal covered five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. He will be ridden at Trentham by A. Messervy. Knockfin left six furlongs behind in 1.16 3-5, the last three in 39 3-ss. It has now been decided that M. Kirwan will ride her in the Telegraph Handicap. Rebel Chief's Effort Silver Ring renewed acquaintance with the track and, with Rebel Chief as u mate, was responsible for an excellent effort over six furlongs. The pair were together until ncaring the post, when Silver Ring drew away to record 1.14 4-5, Rebel Chief taking 1.16. Silver Ring was ridden out by G. Humphries, but Kirwan, on Rebel Chief, was not severe on his mount over the last part. Silver Ring's display left no doubt as to his forward condition, and ho will he a formidable candidate in the Wellington Cup. Rebel Chief, although well beaten, gave a good display and should race well in the Anniversary Handicap, in which he will bo ridden by Kirwan, and not by L. J. Ellis, as previously announced. Golden Dart, under a pull, was too good for Lord Masham over half a mile in 50 4-ss. The former w ill be ridden by M. Caddy in the Apprentices' Plate and should race prominently. This was Lis first fast work since- returning front the recent southern meetings, but he should be fit for the second day at Trentham. In addition to Sisterina, M. C'onza brought back to Riccarton from Grey mouth Linoleum and Theatin, and both are to be tried as hurdlers. The former had his first lesson over the pony jumps to-day. Crash, with Pahu as a schooling mate, jumped two hurdles well. It is intended to race him in brush hurdle events, and to later tackle steeplechasing with him. Cheap Money appeared as an acceptor for the Telegraph Handicap, but will not be sent to Trentham. I). Cotton has received Arena and Free Roso to train on behalf of their Hokitika owner, Mr. J. Adamson. T. Lloyd did not return south after racing Tout le Monde, Invoice and Silver .Test at the Manawatu, Marton and Stratford meetings, and his charges will be at Trentham this week. Ranelagh is now being hacked about, with F. Holmes' team, and another effort is to be made later in tho year to make a hurdler of him.
