NEW REGISTRAR
UNIVERSITY POSITION mr. i. f. Mckenzie HIGH SCHOOL MASTER From 51 applicants, six of whom had been invited to appear before it in person, the New Zealand University Senate yesterday appointed Mr. Lan Fraser McKenzie, M.A., 8.C0m., senior commercial master at the Whangarei High School, to be registrar of the university, in succession to Mr. E. T. Norris, who will retire at the beginning of April, after 21 years' service. Mr. McKenzie, who is 150, has been on the staff of the Whangarei High School since 1923. He lately qualified as an associate registered accountant. He received his earlier education at the Wanganui Technical College, and for two years thereafter was a pupil teacher under the Wanganui Education Board.
Entering nt Otago University in 1917, he went into residence at Knox College, and in 1918 was awarded the MncAndrew Scholarship in economics. Three years later ho graduated M.A., with honours in economics, and later obtained the degree of bachelor of commerce. Alter an extended visit to Australia, during which he did some educational work, lie was appointed to the Whangarci High School. He has taken a keen interest in all the activities of the school and for seven years prior to his marriage he shared in the supervision of the boys' hostel, being for the last two years senior hostel master. Ho has been mainly responsible for the successful management of the boys' and girls' employment bureau which was established at the school five years ago. Mr. MoKenzie is an active member of the Whangarci Presbyterian Church and a number of other organisations in the town. His father is the Rev. J. 1). McKenzie, of Gardner Road, Epsom. Dr. Donald McKenzie, of Manukau Road, is a brother.
