RICCARTON TRACK

SEVERAL lIOESES LAME HOSTIS AND MOONBEAM TOUT LE MONDE VERY FIT [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday The No. 6 grass track was open for fast work at Riccarton to-day, but only a few horses were galloped, theso including some visitors who arrived yesterday. The majority of tho young horses wore given barrier education at the five-i'urlongs post and they were allowed to run down the straight on the outside of the course proper, which will be open for tho final gallops tomorrow. The weather remains fine, but was threatening this ovening. Hoatis has been added to the list of unlikely starters at tho meeting. He struck himself while working with Variant earlier in the week, and has been soro since.

Moonbeam was slightly lame after galloping yesterday and' will not be produced on tho, first day. Wino is still on the sick list and it is not possible to give him any work beyond walking exercise.

Rebel Chief was sprinted a couplo of furlongs to-day, and, although still showing stiffness behind, is very much improved. The excellent condition of Tout Le Monde has attracted tho attention of some of the visiting trainers and thero seems to be an inclination to seriously consider his chance under his feather weight in the New Zealand Cup. Tho Chokobore apprentice A. C. Messervy has been engaged to ride him. Polydora Schools Well

Trishna has been inactive since his fall in tho hurdle race at Washdyke last month and will not be able to raco again for a few weeks. H. Turner, who suffered a slight back injury when Trishna fell, has sufficiently recovered to ride work on tho flat, but, acting on medical advice, will not tackle any hurdle riding until after the cup meeting. Tea Garden, who was recently acquired by a patron of D. Hasting's stable, has done a good deal of road work lately and will soon be put into full commission with a view to racing at the West Coast holiday meetings. Polydora. in company with her stablemate Olive Smith, was responsible for a brilliant display of jumping to-day, going over two brush hurdles twice. R. Beale, who has ridden Black Duke in all of his races this season, will, under an earlier arrangement, ride Polydora at the meeting. Another horseman for Black Duke had not been secured today, but, as W. Pascoe has been instructed to school him to-morrow, ho will probably have the mount on Saturday. The Latest Arrivals Red Sun is to have his first experience of brush fences to-morrow, when he will be schooled by his usual pilot, C. Thomson. He will be accompanied by Arctic Star, who will also mako his first acquaintance with that class of obstacle. » The Invercargill trainer J; A. Rowland was at Riocarton to-day in charge of Steeton, who was taken over by him from T. E. Pankhurst two weeks ago. The latest arrivals at Riccarton include Horn's Reef, Cuddle, Princess Doreen, Hunting Cat, Padishah, Going Gay, Rompalong, Bodyline, Dawning Light, Treasure Hunt, Acceptable and Ayresleigh.
