METHODIST MISSION
REPORT OF YEAR'S WORK ELECTION OF OFFICERS "During the last 12 months progress has characterised every department of our activities," states the annual report of the Auckland Methodist Social Service Mission, which was presented to a well-attended meeting on Tuesday night. The Rev. A. J. Seamer, who presided, was welcomed back after an extended tour of Australia with the Waiata Maori Choir. Tho mission was able to send 40 children and 20 adults tft. its camp at Ostend last Christmas, and over seven acres had recently been purchased at Campbell's Bay as a permanent'camp site. The camp at Ostend had been considerably improved by the erection of an outbuilding and the planting of about 500 trees. The committee had agreed to go ahead with the erection of the main building at Campbell's Bay when tho sum of £IOOO was available. The scheme when completed would involve £3OOO. Excellent work had been accomplished by the social service department and over £12,000 was handled annuallv.
Good results had been achieved with regard to prison work, and a number of men had been transferred to country camps. Saturday eveping evangelistic services were well attended and over 4000 free meals served. An average attendance of between 25 and 30 Maoris attended the special Sunday services, and success rewarded the splendid efforts of tho newly-formed Franklin Road branch. The following were elected to the board of management:—Tho Rev. A. J. Seamer, superintendent of the Home Mission department, the Rev. E. D. Patchett, chairman of the district, the Revs. G. I. Laurenson, G. Frost, W. A. Sinclair, F. J. Parker, Dr. Ranston, Dr. E. G. Savers, Mrs. T. Clark, Missea L. Williams, E. Booth, J. Purser, and Messrs. W. S. Mackay, J. Tyler, A. Messer, E. J. Hutson, J. J. Parker, l'\ Penn and M. Smethurst, togother with circuit officials and representatives and trustees of the mission properties.
