CENTENARY MUSIC
RETURN TO EUROPE BRIEF STAY IN AUCKLAND After having acted as musical director at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne, for the Eucharistic Congress held in connection with the centenary celebrations, Dr. G. von Keussler, conductor and composer, arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Wanganella. on his way back to Europe. Dr. von Keussler was born at Petroprad in 1874, his parents being of German nationality. His musical studies were carried out in various parts of Europe. Ho was appointed director of the Singakademie at Hamburg in 1918, and occupied this position until 1921. He made his first appearance in Australia in 19.31, and remained thero until 1933, conducting orchestras in Sydney and Melbourne. He returned to Germany in that year, but arrived in Australia again last year in time for the centenary celebrations. , His compositions include the opera "Die Geisselfahrt," the oratorios "The Mother" and "Zebaoth," a number of songs, and "C Major Symphony. Before Dr. von Keussler left Melbourne he conducted at a number of symphonic concerts given in the Town Hall. On his return to Europe ho will make an extensive tour, including Stuttgart, Prague, Munich and Berlin, where he will conduct orchestras. He will leave to-morrow by the Akaroa for London.'
