Wednesday It was announced to-day that Mr* Henry Holland, acting on medical advice, had reluctantly decided to withdraw his "candidature for the Christchurch North seat, which hie hsidi held since 1925. The seat will now fa, contested for the Government by Holland's son, Mr. S. G. Holland, Mr. H. Holland, who will be '76 yeai* of age next month, has not enjoyed very good health since early lastj August, when he fell down a flight of! office steps in Christchurch and suffered shock, slight head injuries and fraotures of a collarbone and several ribs.. For many years Mr." Holland has bften prominent in politics and local politics in Christchurch, of which city he wa»: Mayor from 1911 to 1918. He has also served as 'chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board and the Christchurch/ Fire Board and as a member of various other public bodies. He first was elected to Parliament in 1925 as Reform member for Christchurch North, defeating Dr. H. T. J. Thacker by a majority of 2910 votes. At thfTgenoral elections in; 1928 and 1931 he was re-elected, oa! each occasion with a large majority. >,
