THE WAIKATO FIXTURE A VARIED PROGRAMME RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED . [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, "Wednesday With record entries showing an advance of nearly 150 per cent, with very largo increases in tlio light horse, calf club and pig sections, the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual summer show at the Claudelands show* grounds on Friday and Saturday, promises to be a particularly successful event. As a vehicle to demonstrate the capabilities of the district in producing livestock of the highest quality the fixture for 44 years has been the most important attraction in tlio Waikato. Every year breeders vie with each other in their efforts to improve on the previous year's standard. There have been several notable developments in farming in recent years, including the advance made by Waikato breeders in producing fat lambs that compare favourably with any others in the world and bid fair to oust the famous Canterbury product for preeminence. More recently the demand for chilled beef has encouraged breeders to produce animals suitable Tor this trade, and in this section tho Waikato has not been backward. Pig production has also received a fillin in recent years, and in this connection tho Waikato has taken tho lead by developing pig recording and feed experiments, by building up a large business organisation to handle the product, and by importing sires of the highest quality from England. All these developments are reflected in the exhibits at the show, and should prove of interest to every section of tho community. A remarkablef variety of attractions is being provided for Saturday, people's day. The programme includes a parade of the prize-winning stock, tho Dominion jumping competition and numerous other ring events, two trotting exhibitions, the Hamilton Korinel Club's animal show, amateur athletic events, children's cajf classes, an exhibition of lambs, several chopping com-, petitions, gymnastic displays by the Y.M.C.A. members, juvenile pony classes, sheep shearing competitions, and tin hare racing.
