NEW VESSELS
DOMINION CARGO TRADE ORIENT PASSENGER LINER According to advice received from the Herald's London correspondent, the two new cargo motor-ships ordered from Messrs. John Brown nnd Company, Clydebank, by the New Zealand Shipping Company, will each be of about 10,000 tons gross. The vessels are to bo planned on the stylo_ of the Federal Line's motor-ships Otaio, Opawa and Ornri, but the gross tonnage will be greater. Thfe capacity for refrigerated cargo on each vessel will bo about 428,000 cubic feet, and the capacity for general cargo will be about 243,000 cubic feet. Diesel machinery of the Doxford type will be installed on both vessels. They will bo ready for service between Great Britain and New Zealand at the end of 1936. The advico also states that the Orient Steam Navigation Company, which recently took delivery of the 24,000 tons liner. Orion from Vickers-Armstrongs, Limited, has entered into a contract with the same firm to construct another liner similar in size and power to the Orion for the London-Australian passenger service.
