FEWER UNEMPLOYED
IMPROVEMENT IN BRITAIN SUBSTANTIAL YEAR'S DECREASE (Received November 5, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Nov. 4 The unemployment figures show a reduction of more than 40,000 in the number of unemployed in October, compared with the preceding month. The Ministry of Labour estimates that at October 21 there were approximately 10,492,000 insured persons between the ages of- 16 and 64 in employment in Britain. This was 14,000 more than at September 23 and 279,000 more than the corresponding period last year. The numbers of unemployed persons on the registers in Britain totalled 1,916,390, comprising 1,595,689 wholly unemployed, 238,866 temporarily laid off, and 81,835 normally in casual employment. The total was 42,220 less than at September 23, and 203,245 less than a year ago.
