SLIPS ON EAST COAST
WHAKATANE ROAD BLOCKED HEAVY RAIN AT OPOTIKI [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday Incessant rain last night in the Opotiki district resulted in the Waioeka Gorge being again blocked by a large slip which came down at Trafford's Hill on the Matawai end of the gorge. A car was sent out to bring passengers into Opotiki.
At about 2 p.m. to-day a big slip came down at the Waiotahi Bluff, on the main JVhakatane highway, completely blocking traffic, which will have to make a detour round Paerata Ridge. It is thought it will take the best part of two days to clear the road.
