WAIKATO RIVER HIGH REPORTS FROM ROTORUA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday Dull, cold weather during tho past two days has handicapped anglers, and reports of large bags or heavy fish are few. Tho Waikato River at Atiamuri is reported to bo running high owing to recent rain, but in spite of this, fair bags have bean secured by anglers operating there, including a number of visitors. Before the rain set in there was an exceedingly good 'riso in the locality each day between 3 p.m. and dusk. Captain A. (3. W. Heber-Percy. aide-de-camp to the Governor-General, Viscount Galwav, has been enjoying good sport in the Waikato River near Pye's Camp, and is reported to have taken 50 lisli on tho dry fly since tho opening of the season. CATCHES AT TAUPO LAUNCH PARTIES SUCCESSFUL [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUPO, Tuesday Larger catches were general in the lake yesterday, and fair results were obtained by fly fishormen at tho mouth of tho Waitahanui stream. Messrs. Guthrie Smith and A. Absolom, of Ilawke's Bay, fished with the ily and spoon in tho western bays from the launch Sunbeam, and returned with a total of 22 fish. Those were all of fair condition for tho opening of the season, as also were tho 14 fish caught by Mr. G Blundell, of Waipukurau, and party in the launch Pandora, in tho vicinity of Rangatira Point. Fishing from a rowboat near tho outlet, Mr. P. Grey landed 12 fish before breakfast yesterday morning. Fish aro reported to bo plentiful in tho Waikato River, but aro not taking well. WAIKATO MEN'S SUCCESS THIRTY-EIGHT FISH LANDED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Tuesday Two Waikato anglers, Mr. W. Lambie, of Hamilton, and Mr. C. J. Luxton, of Waitoa, had a successful duy and a-half's fishing in tho Ngongotahu lliver, Rotorua, last week-end. Fishing with a wot fly they landed 38 fish, including two weighing 91b. each. All the fish were in good condition. The rivers and streams of tho Waikato have been in (lood during the last week, and little fishing has been done in tho locality.
