TRAFFIC STAFF

Sir, —Referring to vour recent article on dissatisfaction ill the city traffic staff, surely it is not the case that a traffic officer was refuser] promotion simply because he had acted with many others as a special constable in the strike of ]»].'3 22 years ago? If this is as stated then it must be one of the most flagrant eases of victimisation on record. One hears that Labour will not stand for or countenance victimisation in any shape or form. Perhaps those who made the appointments will explain their reasons for doing so and thus allav anv misconceptions. Play Fair.

Sic, —1 was surprised on reading your article in Tuesday's Hkuald re the appointment of the traffic superintendent. and traffic inspector. If this is the manner in which Labour parties are going to choose men for executive positions in the towns, what will they be like if tliev become leaders of Parliament? 1 think it is a shame to see men appointed who have only had about 18 months' experience, and put above men who have had several years' experience in traffic matters. I lie mo'oring public should have some say in this matter. Not only are they being harassed at the present moment, but. are being lined for some ridiculous offences. Where once these men were our servants, they become our masters. What really should have been done was to appoint some person from overseas who thoroughly understood traffic control from A. to Z. Motorist.
