DANGEROUS CANOES

Stating, that grave danger to human life was occasioned by the increase in the popularity of canoeing on beaches, Mr. A. I. Coitrell, president of the Canterbury Surf Association, appealed to officials of the New Brighton Surf Club for help in regulating the sport. The worst feature was a general practice to go out long distances from the shore, thus em angering, not only tho life of the canonist, but also of anyone attempting to effect a rescue in the event of an accident. He suggested that members of thu club should refuse to accept the positions of beach inspectors unless they were given the same powers as a policeman would have in these cases.
