Oct. 21 Lloyd's list records a "further improvement in many sections of the homeward chartering markets. Although shippers have raised their offers they have not been able td get the required tonnage. :: Tho recovery is the more satisfactory in view of the steady decline in the number' of ships laid up in British ports, which, according to the Chamber of Shipping, were 224 on October 1, with a net tonnage of 502,462, compared with 323 and 878,416 tons at the beginning of tho year.
