Tho Devonport branch of the Leagne of Mothers met in tho Masonic Hall, Devonport, yesterday. Tho president, Mrs. G. Budd, presided. Hostesses were Mrs. I. Parry and Mrs. Shepherd. Several members gave demonstrations of handicraft, and tho thought for tho month was given by Mrs. Lane.

The cantata, "The Holy City" (A. R. Gaul), was rendered by the choir and friends of All Saints' Church, Birkenhead. Tho soloists were Mrs. E. Wallis (soprano). Miss Winifred Johnson (contralto), Mr. Lan Burry (tenor) and Mr. A. J. W. Hodder (bass). The pianist was Mrs. T. Joli, and the organist and choirmaster Mr. 11. B. Bickerton.

Miss A. M. Bentham, until recently general secretary of the Auckland Y.W.C.A., who has been visiting relatives in the South Island, will leave for Australia on October 31. She will spend somo months with the National Y.W.C.A. of that country, visiting several local associations, including Toowoomba, Brisbane and Newcastle, and she will later act as dean of a training school for secretaries to be held in Melbourne during January. Miss Bentham will leave in April for India, en route to England.

A pleasant morning tea party was held in Milne and Choyce's Tudor Tearooms on Saturday, when Miss Agnes Stops, who arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa that morning, was welcomed by the president and past and present members of the Auckland district federation of women's institutes. The guest of honour, who was wearing a grey tailored ensemble, received a corsage spray of pink flowers. Among those present were Mesdames Stanley Phillips (president), Teape, Milligan, Insley, Revell, McElwain, Bagnall and Robb, and the Misses Hopper and Chilwell. To bring old-time dancing into popularity among their members, Court Maid Marian (ladies' rootion of the Ancient Order of Foresters), held a social evening 011 Monday in the Foresters' Hall, Albert Street, following their usual fortnightly meeting held under the presidency Qf' the chief ranger, Sister R. Darlow. A large number of members and friends was present and all arrangements were under the direction of Sister Rhodes, who also acted as instructress. Sir Roger de Coverley was performed with much grace, the figures of the lancers were well conducted, and waltzes and polonaises were received with great favour. During the course of events, Sister Rhodes was. presented with a bouquet in appreciation of her services.
