Hefford. after inspecting sites for the location of oyster beds, stated he had been unable to obtain ail the information he was seeking. He said it was important to know the range of temperature of the woter in the summer and winter months and it was also essential to make certain that the scheme was economically sound before going on with it. It was still an open question whether the cost of establishing the beds would not be greater than the value of the trade. In this respect the condition of the harbour Soor. the number of pests in the water and also tie amount of organism available as food for oyster* had to be determined.
