YACHT RACING

SEASON ON MANUKAU The yachting season on the Manukau will be officially opened on Saturday, November 16, when combined races for yachts and launches will be held by the Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club and the Manukau Cruising Club. The feeling of goodwill between the two clubs has never been so much in evidence as at the present time. The clubs have decided to hold combined opening races, two combined cruising events, and they will close the season with combined harbour races. Mr. G. May has sold his champion boat, Aoma, to Mr. 11, Andrew, and it will be interesting to see how her new owner handles her. A boat to make her re-appearance on the Manukau is the 18ft. Florence, which has been purchased by Mr. E. Laird. A number of new boats will make their appearance, and a few have been purchased from the Waitemata. The Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club will open its season next Monday, when races will be held for all classes of models. In addition to club events, races will also be provided for non-members. A regatta will be held at Mahurangi Heads on Boxing Day, December 26. Races will be decided for 26ft. and 22ft. mullet boats, 18ft. boats and also for smaller classes. In addition contests will be held for launches and boats owned by the residents of Mahurangi and surrounding districts. In all probability a race from Auckland for mullet boats to Mahurangi will be held on Christmas Eve.
