INTER-CLUB COMPETITION HARD COURT CONTESTS DRAW FOR SATURDAY'S PLAY The following matches between teams representing hard court clubs will be played under the control of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association next Saturday:— Second Grade.—Campbell Park v. HERNE BAY CLUB With the opening of the 1935-36 season the Heme Bay Lawn Tennis Club, formerly known as the Y.M.C.A. Tennis Club, celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of its foundation and opened the new two-storeyed pavilion erected by members. There was a record attendance of over 250, a large number of whom were foundation members. The president. Mr. E. E. Kitchener, in opening the new pavilion, congratulated the club on its progress and referred to the time when tho dub had to be content with three courts. Other speakers were Mr. P. Harrison, president, and Mr. S. Cleal, vice-president, of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. J. McCoskrie, patron, and Mr. W. H. Fortune, club captain, who was presented with a clock ip appreciation for services rendered. The club was officially declared open by the president after Mra. Fortune had played the first ball. During the afternoon trophies won by members last, season were presented by Mrs. Kitchener. Jubilee celebrations will include a visitors' day on Saturday. WAIATA CLUB'S OPENING The Waiata Tennis Club held its opening day on Saturday, after being closed for two months for the reconstruction of the courts. The president, Mr. W. A. Turner, welcomed the visitors, and thanked the various committees for their help in making opening day a succesn. Mr. W. J. Jordan. M.P., in declaring the courts open, congratulated the club on the improvements to the courts and grounds. Mr. P. Harrison also spoke on behalf of the Auckland Association, giving a description of the early days of the association. Mrs. Turner presented cups won in the club competitions, Mr. and Mrs. Goodall presenting the Goodall Cup. Mrs. Turner served the first ball. The afternoon was concluded with a tournament, the winners being Mrs. Davies and Mr. Johns. i: HELENSVILLE DISTRICT CLUB [from ottr own correspondent] HELENSVILLE, Tuesday The official opening of the Helensville Tennis Club took place on Saturday afternoon when a large number of players and visitors were present. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association was represented by Mr. E. W. Griffiths and Mr. D. Guy, vice-presi-dent, represented the Kaipara Lawn Tennis Sub-association. During the afternoon the visitors played an exhibition doubles match resulting in a win for Allen and Cooper who heat Griffiths and Butler. 6—2 The Kaukapakapa Lawn Tennis Club opened the season on Saturday afternoon. Mr. E. W. Grffiths spoke on behalf of tho Auckland La vn Tennis Association and Mr. A. E. L. Dodd, vice-president, also spoke on behalf of the Kaipara Lawn Tennis Subassociation.

THE CLUB [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Fine weather waa experienced for the opening on Saturday of the Hamilton Tennis Club's season. Tuesday There were many players and visitors at the opening of the Okoroire Tennis Club on Saturday. A yankee tournament was won by Mrs. Boardin and T. Mackin. THE RIVERHEAD CLUB [from our own correspondent] , KUMEU, Tuesday At the annual meeting of tho Riverhead Tennis Club the president, Mr. J. Johnson, stated that the position of the club was most satisfactory and that progress . had beon marked in the past year. The membership of the club was about 50 and the financial position was sound. A pavilion had been erected during the winter and included a club hall, 30ft by 15ft for Rocinl functions, and an electrically-fitted kitchenette. A third court had also beon formed by voluntary labour. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. J. Johnson; vice-presidents, Messrs S. R. Gould. P. Lingard. sen., A. Burr, jun., ' and A. OTOROHANGA CLUB A record number of 100 players and spectators was present at the official opening of the Otorohanga Presbyterian Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. The opening ceremony was performed by the president. Rev. T. H. Burton, who congratulated the club on the good condition of tho courts' and the progressive policy followed. Miss Burrell, the ladies' captain, served the first ball.
