TUNNEL ROAD PLANNED
CHRISTCHURCH SCHEME COST ESTIMATED AT £450,000 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday Delegates representing most of the major public authorities in the city decided at a conference to-day to send a deputation to Wellington to urge the Government to undertake the construction of a tunnel road between Christchurch and Lyttelton. It was urged that the enterprise should be made an unemployment relief work under the department's new scheme. It was mentioned in discussion that the cost would be about £450,000.
A special meeting of the City Council held later approved the scheme, but not unanimously.
