AUCKLAND CENTENARY
CELEBRATION PLANS A CONFERENCE CALLED Local bodies and all other interests likely to be concerned in the celebration of the centenary of Auckland in 1940 are being invited by tho Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, to send delegates to a preliminary conference in the City Council chamber on the evening of Monday, November 11/ The Mayor's intention is to obtain views upon tho general form which tho celebrations should take and the means of building up an organisation. It is then proposed, in conformity with a resolution of the City Council, to set up a representative committee with tho town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham, as secretary, to draw up a definite and comprehensive scheme for submission to a plenary conference next March. The Mayor believes that thero is much latent interest in tho centenary amontr tho people of tho Auckland metropolitan area and tho districts round, and that his appeal will have active support from tho local bodies and other organisations.
