SUNDAY PLAY IN PARKS
DECISION AT ONEHUNGA EQUIPMENT TO BE AVAILABLE In pursuance of notice given, Mr. G. E. Haydon moved at a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last night that, as the council permits Sunday play on its tennis courts and reserves, the playing equipment provided for children in Jellicoe Park and on the beaches should be available for use on Sundays. The motion, which was seconded by Mr. M. C. H. Barnett, evoked an animated discussion, during which Mr. Haydon agreed to the apparatus not being available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Those supporting the motion said they did so on the grounds of consistency, but tho Mayor, Mr. J. Park, held that the opening of the equipment for children would constitute a dangerous precedent and he could not support the proposal.
The motion was carried by 6 votes to 2.
