THE NEW SEASON LOWER WAIKATO ACTIVITIES [FROM OtTB OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUPIRI* Monday Delegates from .eight affiliated clubs were present at the annual meeting of the Lower Waikato Lawn Tennis Association, held in Huntly., Applications for affiliation from two new clubs, Gordonton and Kainiii, were accepted, making a total of 10 clubs 'n the area. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. H. D. Sampson; president, Mr. P. Harris; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Malcolm, J. Farrcll, Holmes, W, B. Cummins. Shaw, Hoskings, Learning and H. J. Sampson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. I. Kasoof; senior selectors, Messrs.- H. Smith, H. D. Sampson; junior selectors, Messrs. P. Harris, J. Farrell; delegates to Waikato Association, Messrs. Berry, Kasoof, Farrell, Sampson; handicappers, Messrs. Harris, Sampson, H. Smith. It was decided to divide the association into two sections, Ohinewai, Huntly, Rahui and Glen Afton being in the northern seotion and Glen Massey, Pukemiro, Taupiri. Kainui and Ngaruawahia in the southern. The championship tournament is to be held at Huntly on January 11 and 18, th« handicap tournament at Ngaruawahia on; January 29 and February !, and the junior championships at Taupiri on a date to be decided upon, • . . | WESLEY CLUB'S OPENING The Wesley Young Men's Institute Tennis Club was favoured with excellent weather on Saturday when the courts Were officially opened in the .presence of a record gathering of over 80. The opening was performed by Mr. K. J. Rosser, who spoke of the first W.Y.M.I. Club, twenty years ago. Opportunity was taken in view of his approaching marriarje to make a presentation to Mr. F. L. Harris, who has held the offiee of captain, vice-captain and treasurer during various periods of the last five years. The opening ceremony wes followed by a progressive tournament, the winners being Miss G. Tonkin and G. Mcllwraith. PUKEATUA CLUB About 20 members were present at the annual meeting of the Pukeatua Tennis Club. The secretary reported that a ne\jf concrete tennis court had been ' laid by voluntary labour. The meeting accorded a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. A.. Ferguson for his services to the club, and for the generous manner 'in which he had allowed the club to use his private tennis courts on numerous occasions.

It was decided to open the courts next Saturday. The following officers were elected Patron, Mr. A, Ferguson; president, Mr. E. H. Rhodes; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. T. Weal. C. Crook, Graff. H. Fergus. Fletcher; secretary, Miss M. J. Edmonds; club captain, Mr. Callaghan; committee. Misses Andrew, Weal, P. Heddon, Messrs. Holmes, Yates, J. McKee.

PLAY OPENS AT CAMBRIDGE [from our own correspondsht] CAMBRIDGE, Monday Several district tennis clubs officially opened the 1935-36 season on Saturday. Excellent weather prevailed. At the Cambridge Club's courts an American tournament was played during tha afternoon, the winners being C. D. Morgan and Miss E. Woods. Two exhibition matches w^re" played as follows; Miss Margaret Beverley and H. G. Keeley v. Miss N. Beverley and E. Brown; Miss E. Brown and R. Germann v. Miss May Beverley and W. Oates. A Yankee tournai ment was held, the winners being Mrs. Goebel (Okoroire) and J. Bell, jun.

There was a good attendance of local club players and visitors from Matakohe end .Maungaturoto. Mr. E. G. Aickin, presidjit of the club, drove the first ball, after which a Yankee /; tournament was played. P. Casey and N. Leaf tied for the first place among the non- £ layers, and in the o»aw for the winner, > ieaf was successful.
