NEW SPORTS CLUB
CARNIVAL AT WHANGAREI [fro:,i our own correspondent] 'WHANGAREI, Monday A well attended and representative meeting was held last evening in the Town Hall to consider the formation of a club to conduct amateur and professional snorts carnivals periodically in Whangarei. Mr. R. G. Uoeking presided. The convener, Mr. G. Gillet, said the recently-constructed Jubilee Park, would be one of the best sports grounds in the North when properly completed, possessing a '22oyds track. Visitors had often wondered why a town of the size of Whangarei had n-jver had such a carnival, while at Maunga-, tapere, Maungakaramea and Mangakania well-conducted and successful gatherings 1 were held. These three districts had promised their support to Whangarei. , :$ Mr. R. G Hosking said he was quite in ' acccrd with the objects of the meeting and! felt that a carnival holding field games, j running, cycling and Highland dancing, both : amateur and professional, would prove very successful in Whangarei. t ■ * , It t wa'B • decided to form a. club, «tbiMbei known as the Whangarei Sports Club, and'i to hold the first carnival on Boxing Day. i Affiliation with the Northern Athletic Union was decided upon, Mr. G. Gillet being i appointed delegate; ~ : The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P.; president, Mr. G. Gillet: vice-presidents, Messrs. W. H. Be«hre, R. H. Allan, R. G. Hosking: committee, Messrs. S. J. Snow K. Wright, D. Garton, S. Menzies, W. fc lower, R. Scott, P. Jones. L. Morton, H. S. Alexander; secretary, Mr. J. M. Petterson; treasurer, Mr. A. Angelo; auditor, Mr. R. Roseman.
