SUCCESS OF OUTSIDER

ELLERSLIE RACES SURPRISE IN HANDICAP GOOD win for mungatoon TOTALISATOR INCREASE The success of Mungatoon, outsider but one of the field of 20, in the King Edward Memorial Handicap, the chief event, was an outstanding feature of tho second day of the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting at Ellcrslie yesterday. Mungatoon was one of tho leaders throughout, and he stayed on solidly at the finish to win decisively and return a dividend of over two score. Tho topweight, Kiltowyn, was runner-up, and he also paid a fine price for second, tho public supporting him much less than usual and allowing him to go out only 12th fancy.

The conditions for racing were not quite as favourable as on Saturday, the weather being a trifle windy and inclined to be showery. However, the course was again in good order and some smart performances were registered. Only two favourites, Mazir and Gallio, were victorious, but all the winners, with the exception of Mungatoon, were fairly solidly supported. Three of Saturday's winners, Erination, Mazir and Gascille, were again successful, their victories being among tha most decisive of tho day. The totalisator handled £19,601 10s, compared with £18,175 10s on the second day last year, an increase for the day. The total investments for the meeting showed an increase of £2328 10s, the investments amounting to" £16,459 10s, against £44,131. Results
