PORT OF FOXTON
MAINTENANCE DIFFICULTIES The uncertainty of - the navigability of the port of Foxtoa has caused concern recently, and proposals submitted by the Harbour Board for improvements have prompted the contributing bodies, to question the desirability of continuing the provision of shipping facilities, states the "Wanganui Chronicle. The area served covers Mar.awatu, Southern Hawko's Bay and Northern Wairarapa, and the trade is mostly with South Island ports, the principal trafiic being in coal and cereals.
A conference will be held in Palmerston North this week to consider what steps will bo taken, as there is a possibility that if improvements are not made the vessels at present trading with Foxton will be withdrawn.
