RELIEF SCHEMES
ERADICATING FARM PESTS RAGWORT AND RABBITS Schemes for ragwort and rabbit destruction during; the coming summer are being launched by the Unemployment Board in co-operation with county councils and other bodies. The ragwort scheme, which is being undertaken by the Raglan and Matamata County Councils and is under consideration by others, provides not less than five days' work weekly, with no stand-down week. The board will pay a subsidy of 27s 6d a week for single men and from 40s to 51s 6d a week for married men. Local authorities may establish camps, and individual farmers who obtain labour under the scheme are required to provide food, transport, materials, and, where necessary, accommodation." The rabbit destruction scheme, which is on lines formerly adopted, will operate until March 31 next. It applies only to poisoning or fumigation. Rabbit boards, county councils and Government departments will bo allowed subsidies of 30s a week for single men and of 40s to 52s for married meir. Individual farmers will be allowed 15s for single men and 30s for married men, and must provide materials, gear, food and accommodation.
FARM TRAINING PLAM ERECTION OF COTTAGES [from our own correspondent J HAMILTON, Monday The Waikato Land Settlement Society has decided to accept the grant offered by the Unemployment Board for the purpose of erecting cottages on the society's Wharepapa and Roto-o-rangi blocks. The decision has been made as the result of the interest taken by the unemployed in the scheme of training men for farm work. Occupants' of sections the society might o*pen up in the future will be selected from those employed under the new schema. Twelve cottages will bo erected.
