Monday Five charges of obtaining a motorcar, a motor-cycle and tlireo radio sets, of the total value of £ll2, the property of residents of Hamilton, Te Kuiti and Putaruru, by means of false representations, were admitted by John Henry Gill, aged .'35, in the Hamilton Police Court to-day. Detective-Sergeant Thompson na.id that accused was at present on probation in connection with a false pretences charge.
Gill stated that ho bad domestic trouble. Ho had two children to maintain and as a relief worker he was classed as a single man. He was unable to make sufficient money in a relief camp to keep the children, and shortage of money led to the offences. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, remarked that accused had not benefited from the leniency extended to him, and he needed a sharp lesson. Accused was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on one count, and to two years' reformative detention on the remaining counts.
