DALMATIAN WITH GUN
YOUNG WOMAN THREATENED PROSECUTION AT HAMILTON [ from oira OWN correspondent] HAMILTON. Monday A difficult problem was presented to Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court to-day when a Dalmatian, Ivan Slackich, aged 35, appeared on a charge of unlawfully presenting a firearm. Slackich was ajso called upon to find recognisances that ho would keep the peace. ' Detective-Sergeant Thompson »aul that accused had been pursuing a young woman with whom he had lived. She would not. now have anything to do with him. Slackich went to her home and, presenting a gun at her, threatened to shoot her. Ho removed the cartridge, but replaced it and made a second throat to shoot. On another occasion he threatened to cut her throat. A gun and sheath knife were found in accused's possession. The police, said Mr. Thompson, had every reason to believe that a tragedy might occur if Slackich was not restrained. Mr. Johnson, for accused, said that if Slackich were sent to prison ho might become embittered and do the woman harm. Slackich had given an undertaking not to molest the girl again. On ascertaining that Slackich was not naturalised the magistrate suggested that he might be deported or, alternatively, he might bo committed to a mental hospital. Accused was convicted and discharged for unlawfully presenting the gun and was ordered to find recognisances of £25 to keep the peace. He was ordered to bo kept in custody until the sureties were found and in the meantime arrangements would be made to have him medically examined.
