EIGHTY-EIGHTH BIRTHDAY | _ ~~ . , for many years an outstanding figure in the Church in New Zealand. Archbishop Julius, of Christchurch, will celebrate his 88th birthday to-day. Still active, and full of mental vigour the Archbishop has lived in recent years at" his home in the Cashmere Hills, where he spends much time in his workshop. He was ordained deacon in 1871 and • priest the following year. After a period as Archdeacon of Ballarat, he was con- , secrated Bishop of Christchurch in 1890, and became Primate, and first V holder of the title of Archbishop of . • ftew Zealand in 1922. He retired from. • ; the archbishopric in 1925.
