During his term the work of the„j institution has extended to k consider- ' I able degree, and the infirmary is one ' of the largest health institutions ,"ia ' New Zealand. ■ Mr. Eastgate was an enthusiast [ volunteer military training system, \ being a foundation member of the first-' 1 !'■ company of the New Zealand Natifrea'iirv Auckland. He served in the Sotfth;' African War with 2nd Contingent of the New Zealand Forces, attaining the rank of regimental sergeant-major. » After hostilities had ceased, he. entered the Civil Service, ancl was an account* ant for eight years in the Health De-, : L partment in Wellington. He was trans-|f.. ferred to the Audit Department, jam which he also served in Wellington. In the Great War Mr. Eastgate waa on active service in Egypt and France X until the cessation of hostilities. He served with the 4th Battalion of the - New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and was twice mentioned in despatches. He held the rank of captain, and his decorations included the honour of Officer of the British Empire. Mr. Eastgate's health was, impaired by injuries received in the some years after his return to the Do-",! minion, he was appointed manager of [ the Auckland Infirmary, a position he has held since. He will reside at Wey- ;l ~ mouth, on the Manukau Harbour. :
