MANUREWA UNEMPLOYED
SUBSIDISED MEAT PROBLEM The consumption of beef by the unemployed in Manurewa was discussed by the Manurewa Town Board last night, when a deputation waited on the board. The speakers said tho men been advised that tho Unemployment Board had intimated its intention to cancel the weekly supplies of subsidised meat. They requested the board to investigate the position. Tho clerk, Mr. H. Kay, said the Auckland office of the Labour Department had stated tho registered unemployed in Manurewa were entitled to 8001b. of meat weekly. For some timo past tho amount requisitioned had been up to 11001b. a week. Tho Unemployment Board proposed to withhold supplies until tho excess wns accounted for on the weekly quota basis. Tho deputation stated the excess amounted to iiGOOlb., and it would be fully a month before the meat supplies coidd bo resumed, according to the clerk's statement. The speakers asked tho board to suggest to the authorities that 6001b. be issued weekly and the excess reduced gradually. Tho board decided to adopt the deputation's suggestion and make representations to the Unemployment Board.
